Why is the wireless LAN card always connecting to 802.11n networks?

that have 802.11n wireless cards built in, per default 802.11n mode is enabled and they will try to connect to any 802.11n networks that maybe in range.

To disable 802.11n mode:

  1. Click start.
  2. Right click “Network” and select properties.
  3. Select “Manage network connections”
  4. Right click wireless network icon and select properties (press “continue” if User Account Control window appears).
  5. Select “Configure”
  6. Select “Advanced” tab
  7. In the left window select 802.11n Mode.
  8. Under Value: select the drop down arrow and select “Disabled” (for Windows XP uncheck “Use default value” before selecting the down arow).
  9. Click “OK” to exit.
  10. Reboot.
